Moev ("we", "us", "our") operates the Moev mobile EV charging service in the Chicago Southland area, including the Moev mobile applications for iOS and Android and the web services at moev.co. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version

We collect the minimum data needed to dispatch a Moev van to your location and charge your EV: your name, contact info, address, precise location while a session is active, payment method (via Stripe), and — for drivers — your license and vehicle documents. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. You can request deletion at any time by emailing info@moev.co.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you provide to us

  • Account: name, email address, mobile phone number, password (stored as a bcrypt hash — never in plain text), profile photo.
  • Service address: street address where you want your EV charged.
  • Driver documents (drivers only): driver's license, vehicle registration, insurance card, and any other verification documents you upload.
  • Payment information: collected and stored by our payment processor, Stripe, Inc. We never see or store full card numbers on Moev servers.
  • Communications: messages you send us via email, phone, or the app.

1.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Precise location: when the app is running with location permission granted, we use precise GPS to route drivers to customers and show customers the live location of their assigned van. Drivers' location is shared with the customer only during an active job.
  • Device information: device model, OS version, app version, push notification token.
  • Service usage: bookings you create, jobs you complete, session duration, energy delivered (kWh), and price.
  • Log data: IP address, request timestamps, and error information used to diagnose technical issues.

1.3 Information we do not collect

  • We do not collect advertising identifiers (Android Ad ID, IDFA).
  • We do not read your contacts, photos, SMS, or calendar.
  • We do not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
  • We do not collect biometric information.

2. How we use your information

  • To operate the service: matching you to a driver, routing the van, processing payment, sending job confirmations and receipts.
  • To communicate with you: transactional email and SMS about your bookings, account, and payment. You can opt out of marketing messages (we send very few) but not transactional messages related to an active job.
  • Fraud, safety, and compliance: verifying driver eligibility, detecting misuse, and complying with legal obligations.
  • Product improvement: understanding aggregate patterns of use so we can make the service more reliable.

3. Who we share information with

We share the minimum data necessary with the following categories of third parties. We do not sell your personal information.

4. How we protect your information

  • In transit: all communication between the mobile app / web and our servers uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher.
  • At rest: data stored in AWS is encrypted using AWS-managed keys. Uploaded documents are stored in private S3 buckets and only served via short-lived signed URLs.
  • Passwords: never stored in plain text. Hashed using bcrypt with a cost factor of 12.
  • Access controls: only vetted Moev staff can access personal data, and only for legitimate business purposes.

5. Location data

Moev uses precise location for the following purposes only:

  • Customers: to route the driver to your service address and show the driver's live position while a job is active.
  • Drivers: to allow customer tracking and admin dispatch to route jobs. Drivers can go offline to stop sharing location.

We do not track location in the background when the app is closed. We do not sell or share location data with any third-party advertising or data broker.

6. Data retention

  • Active accounts: retained while the account exists.
  • Deleted accounts: personal identifiers are removed within 30 days of a verified deletion request.
  • Financial records: transaction records may be retained in anonymized form for up to 7 years to comply with tax and accounting law.
  • Backups: encrypted backups are rotated on a 30-day cycle; deletions propagate to backups within that window.

7. Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you can:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information via your profile in the app.
  • Delete your account and associated personal data. See our Data Deletion page.
  • Export your data in a portable format on request.
  • Opt out of non-transactional marketing communications.

8. Children

Moev is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a minor, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International users

Moev operates in the United States. If you access our services from outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have different data protection rules than your home jurisdiction.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
